News and opinion
News reports sit in World, Politics, Business, Technology, Culture, and Science. They lead with what happened and who is affected. They do not speak in the first person, and they do not campaign.
Opinion is labelled Opinion. A column is one writer’s argument. It may use “I”. It is not a news report, and it is not a roundup of anonymous voices.
Facts
Names, dates, figures, and quotations must be right. Direct quotations stay verbatim and attributed. We do not invent sources, unnamed officials, market moves, or outcomes to fill a gap in the copy.
Corrections
If a published story is wrong on a fact that matters, we correct it. Write to [email protected] with the headline, the URL, and the error. We will check it. A correction is a change to the story, not a quiet edit that pretends the first version never ran.
Spellings and minor slips are fixed as soon as we see them. A serious error — the wrong person, the wrong number, the wrong country — is treated as a correction.
Independence
